A Business Friendly City

When thinking fashion, it is not the City of Vernon California that first comes to mind, but the city is making a name for itself in the fashion industry, and the business world. Vernon has been named the “Most Business Friendly City,” because of its minimal city taxes and fees, non existent utility taxes, and very low business license fees. Home to 1,800 companies, Vernon has become a popular spot for famous designer brands and fashion companies.

Vernon and Fashion

Vernon makes up more than 10 percent of the fashion-related jobs in the Los Angeles County, and its fashion companies account for 20 percent of the total businesses located in the city. There are over 250 companies located in Vernon that work in different fashion areas such as design, dyeing, cutting, sewing, importing, and distribution. Vernon is a very industrial city, and allows for an environment where fashion businesses can continue to grow. Being so close to downtown Los Angeles allows for companies to find key business partners and also be close to national and international trade routes. There is a large amount of warehouse and office space in Vernon, which is a reason that many clothing companies have set up corporate offices in the area. Although it may seem like a small city that is outside the realm of the fashion world, it is becoming the headquarters for many of the name brand design companies, such as True Religion, Lucky Brand, and Forever 21. With enough room for design, storage, and manufacturing, Vernon has become a very attractive place to set up shop, and an undercover fashion treasure. Brands are able to have offices for design teams, sewing, and PR in one building, and then have the manufacturing next door in another. Elle Luce, a PR assistant for Dutch LLC, says that area is becoming very fashion oriented, and she thinks that it is the only place that such vast land can be found available and cheap. The only downside to being located in Vernon is that it is an industrial and working area, so there is the "middle of nowhere" feel.

How Does Fashion Help?

With all of the fashion warehouses and manufacturing factories sprouting, there are more industrial jobs becoming available. This is a great source of employment for all skill levels. The companies buying the land are also very large, and have many jobs in both the manufacturing factories and corporate offices. For a list of job availabilities click here.

So What About LA?

However, with all of these companies in Vernon, what has happened to Los Angeles, which one would expect to be one of the fashion capitals of the world? In South Central, wholesale clothing companies are still thriving, and although they find competition from the Fashion District downtown, they have set up shop and intend to stay right were they are.
